PI Industries Introduces CARVINT, a Next-Generation Insecticide for Advanced Pest Management in India

PI Industries Introduces CARVINT, a Next-Generation Insecticide for Advanced Pest Management

PI Industries has announced the launch of CARVINT (Flometoquin 10% SC), a next-generation insecticide aimed at helping Indian farmers manage some of the key pest challenges affecting high-value vegetable crops.

Designed for the effective control of Thrips and Diamond Back Moth (DBM), CARVINT is targeted at crops including chilli, cabbage and cauliflower. The product combines a differentiated mode of action with residual pest-control performance, offering farmers an additional option as pest pressure, resistance concerns and crop-management costs continue to increase.

The launch strengthens PI Industries’ portfolio of differentiated crop-protection solutions and reflects the company’s focus on bringing innovative agricultural technologies to Indian farmers. PI Industries has previously identified CARVINT among its new agricultural product launches, alongside other crop-protection and biological solutions.

Addressing Growing Pest-Management Challenges

Vegetable growers, particularly those cultivating high-value crops, face increasing pressure from insect pests that can affect crop quality, productivity and profitability.

Thrips are a major concern in chilli cultivation, while Diamond Back Moth remains one of the important insect pests affecting cole crops such as cabbage and cauliflower. Farmers managing these pests often have to contend with repeated spray requirements, shorter periods of control, rising input costs and the gradual development of resistance to established insecticide chemistries.

Against this backdrop, the availability of differentiated crop-protection products can provide farmers with additional tools for integrated pest-management programmes.

CARVINT has been introduced with Flometoquin 10% SC as its active ingredient. According to the company, the product belongs to IRAC Group 34, representing a differentiated insecticide chemistry for the Indian market. Its distinct mode of action provides another option for farmers and agronomists looking to incorporate chemistry rotation into resistance-management strategies.

A Differentiated Tool for Thrips and DBM Control

One of the key positioning points of CARVINT is its application against Thrips and Diamond Back Moth, two pests that can create significant management challenges in vegetable cultivation.

In chilli, Thrips infestation can affect plant growth and crop development, potentially impacting both yield and marketable quality. In cabbage and cauliflower, DBM can damage foliage and compromise crop development, particularly when pest populations become difficult to manage.

By combining targeted pest control with residual performance, CARVINT is positioned as a solution designed to support farmers in maintaining more consistent crop protection.

The product is being focused on key agricultural markets across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, where vegetable cultivation and pest-management requirements create significant demand for advanced crop-protection technologies.

Supporting Resistance-Management Programmes

The growing challenge of insecticide resistance has made chemistry rotation an increasingly important component of responsible pest management.

CARVINT’s differentiated mode of action gives farmers another chemistry that can potentially be incorporated into rotation-based programmes, helping reduce reliance on repeated applications of the same insecticide group.

Rather than depending on a single chemistry throughout the crop cycle, rotation among products with different modes of action is an important principle in resistance-management strategies. CARVINT therefore adds another option to the portfolio available to farmers and crop advisers.

PI Industries Focuses on Agricultural Innovation

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Saket Bhatnagar, CEO – India Brands, PI AgSciences, said:

“Farmers today are navigating growing pest resistance, frequent spray requirements, shorter control duration and rising crop-management costs. CARVINT brings a differentiated mode of action that provides farmers with a new tool for effective and sustained pest management. Its novel mode of action also makes it a useful option within resistance-management programmes, enabling the responsible rotation of chemistries. Through innovations such as CARVINT, we remain committed to bringing differentiated solutions to Indian agriculture that address evolving challenges and support farmers in managing their crops more effectively.”

The launch is part of PI Industries’ broader strategy of expanding its portfolio with differentiated agricultural products. The company’s FY2024-25 annual report lists CARVINT among six agricultural products launched during the year, alongside products spanning insecticides, biologicals and organic fertiliser solutions.

Strengthening the Crop-Protection Portfolio

PI Industries has been expanding its agricultural portfolio through new products aimed at addressing evolving crop-protection and farm-management requirements. Its investor materials highlight a pipeline of more than 20 products at different stages of development and registration, demonstrating the company’s continued emphasis on innovation in agriculture.

With CARVINT, the company is adding another differentiated insecticide to its portfolio, with a focus on pest-management challenges in important vegetable crops.

The introduction also comes at a time when Indian agriculture is increasingly seeking solutions that can deliver effective pest management while helping farmers manage input costs, resistance and application frequency.

Supporting the Next Generation of Indian Farming

For progressive farmers, effective pest management is increasingly about more than simply controlling insects. Maintaining crop health, protecting yield potential, managing resistance and optimising input use are becoming equally important considerations.

CARVINT is positioned to address these requirements by offering a differentiated insecticide option for key pests and crops. Its focus on Thrips and DBM, combined with its distinct mode of action and residual performance, is intended to give farmers greater flexibility in developing crop-protection programmes.

The launch further reinforces PI Industries’ focus on bringing differentiated technologies to Indian agriculture and expanding the range of solutions available to farmers facing increasingly complex pest-management challenges.

As pest resistance and crop-management pressures continue to evolve, products such as CARVINT could play a role in helping farmers adopt more diversified and strategically managed pest-control programmes across India’s important vegetable-growing regions.
