PM Modi to Open M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference on August 7
Conference to Spotlight Evergreen Revolution and the Future of Indian Agriculture
To honour the birth centenary of Prof. M.S. Swaminathan — the visionary architect of India’s Green Revolution — the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, ICAR, and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), will host the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference on 7-9 August 2025 in New Delhi.
The conference, themed “Evergreen Revolution – A Pathway to Bio Happiness” will honor the key contributions of Prof. Swaminathan have made to Indian agriculture, food security and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event and release a special commemorative coin and stamp to mark the occasion and pay tribute to one of India’s greatest agricultural scientists.
Announcing the event, Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General of ICAR, described Prof. Swaminathan as a transformational leader whose scientific innovations helped India transition from food scarcity to food self-sufficiency. He added that the conference will frame a forward-looking roadmap for Indian agriculture, with special emphasis on women’s empowerment and inclusive growth.
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chairperson of MSSRF, emphasized the global significance of the conference in shaping a more sustainable agricultural future. Other dignitaries, including Dr. C. Viswanathan (ICAR-IARI) and Dr. Ashok Singh (NAAS), also reflected on Prof. Swaminathan’s life mission of eliminating hunger and promoting farmer well-being.
The international summit will serve as a high-level platform for dialogue among scientists, policymakers, farmers, agri-tech experts, and development practitioners. Discussions will center around key themes including:
- Conservation and sustainable use of natural resources
- Climate-resilient, nutrition-sensitive agriculture
- Technology-driven and inclusive livelihoods
- Youth and women participation in agricultural development
In its aspirations to build on its agricultural heritage, this conference affirms India’s commitment to sustainable farming, food equity, and bio happiness — which places value on the harmony between people, nature and innovation.
