Historic Crop Insurance Payout Scheduled for Rajasthan Farmers Under PMFBY
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, a landmark programme for farmers’ safety and economic security will be organised on 11 August 2025 in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. The event will focus on distributing crop insurance claim payments under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to farmers from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and other states.
The programme will be chaired by Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, with Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma as the Chief Guest. Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena, farmer leaders, local representatives, and senior officials from both central and state governments will also participate.
The event will take place at 12 noon at the Jhunjhunu Airstrip, drawing a large gathering of farmers from Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur, Kotputli-Behror, and nearby districts. Lakhs of farmers from across the country are expected to join virtually.
₹3,200 Crore to Benefit Over 30 Lakh Farmers
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, over ₹3,200 crore in crop insurance claim amounts will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of more than 30 lakh farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Of this, ₹1,100 crore will benefit over 7 lakh farmers in Rajasthan.
State-wise, the claim distribution is as follows:
- Madhya Pradesh: ₹1,156 crore
- Rajasthan: ₹1,121 crore
- Chhattisgarh: ₹150 crore
- Other States: ₹773 crore
Technology-Driven Transparency
Highlighting the government’s commitment to efficiency and fairness, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that technology and transparency are at the heart of PMFBY. The scheme ensures that farmers receive timely claim payments, helping improve their financial stability, boost their investment confidence, and prepare them to face uncertainties in farming.
A new simplified claim settlement system has been introduced, allowing proportional claim payouts based on the central subsidy alone—without waiting for the state’s premium share. From Kharif 2025, if a state delays its subsidy contribution, it will incur a 12% penalty, and the same rate will apply to insurance companies delaying payments to farmers.
PMFBY’s Impact Since 2016
Launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2016, PMFBY has covered over 78 crore farmer applications and disbursed claims worth ₹1.83 lakh crore. Farmers have contributed only ₹35,864 crore in premiums, meaning payouts have been five times the premium paid—a clear sign of the scheme’s farmer-centric approach.
Farmer Tech Enhancements
Recently, PMFBY introduced several farmer-friendly technological tools like:
- YES-TECH and WINDS Portal for data advancements,
- AIDE Mobile App for speedy access to services
- Krishi Rakshak Portal for tracking and claims,
- and a Helpline 14447 for speedy support.
Through these capabilities accuracy of weather data has improved, restoring claims quickly for farmers and allowed the farmers to deliver a registration arrangement at the village level.
The Prime Minister’s Fasal Bima Yojana continues to empower farmers and enhance their livelihoods and contribute to an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
