Shivraj Singh Chouhan Advocates Scientific Farming to Enhance Farmers’ Income in Chhattisgarh
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai jointly reviewed the progress of rural and agricultural development schemes at a joint review meeting at Mahanadi Bhawan in Raipur on May 13, 2025. The meeting was aimed at reviewing the progress of rural and agricultural development schemes. The leaders reviewed the performance of state and central government schemes and planned strategies for future development.
Appreciating the efforts of the state, Chouhan said that Chhattisgarh is leading by example in rural and agricultural growth. He reiterated the significance of developed villages and contented farmers in attaining the larger vision of a developed India. Chouhan appealed for the inclusion of the ‘Amrit Sarovar’ scheme with local livelihoods to increase water conservation and provide jobs.
He also responded positively to Chhattisgarh’s request to revise the labor budget under MGNREGA and stressed the need for the swift completion of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). Chouhan expressed his satisfaction with the construction progress made under the Niyad Nelanar scheme in Naxal-affected areas, praising its contribution to advancing development in remote locations.
Additionally, Chouhan commended the Atal Digital Suvidha Kendras established in gram panchayats, describing them as a significant step toward achieving digital empowerment in villages. He suggested that this model should be adopted by other states as well.
In the agriculture sector, Chouhan stressed the need to boost farmer income through not just farming but also animal husbandry, fisheries, and horticulture. He promoted the use of scientific techniques, organic farming, and better seeds. He also announced the upcoming launch of ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan,’ where expert teams will train farmers across Chhattisgarh in practical, scientific farming methods.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to rural and agricultural development, calling it the backbone of Chhattisgarh. He emphasized delivering development to the remotest corners, creating self-reliant villages, and providing skill-based jobs to youth as real governance goals.
The high-level meeting was attended by senior ministers and officials from both the Central and State Governments.
