Capt. Brijesh Chowta Highlights Indo-Israel Synergy in Agri-Tech and Water Innovation
On Tuesday in New Delhi, Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada, met with Reuven Azar, the Ambassador of Israel to India, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in sectors like agriculture, aquaculture, education, and water management. The conversation focused on how Israel’s technological expertise could be adapted to benefit rural economies in India—particularly in his home district of Dakshina Kannada.
Capt. Chowta drew attention to the region’s agricultural strengths, especially in the cultivation of export-focused crops such as cashew, arecanut, coconut, and rubber. He emphasized that the area’s well-established network of cooperative farming societies offers an ideal platform for the integration of innovative technologies into traditional agricultural systems.
As part of the dialogue, he proposed greater involvement from Israeli agri-tech companies, including the facilitation of visits and interactive sessions with local farmers. He suggested that bringing in advanced tools—like robotics, drone technology, precision agriculture systems, and AI-driven farm management platforms—could help usher in a new era of smart, efficient, and sustainable farming across the region.
Water management was another priority area raised by Capt. Chowta. Pointing to Israel’s world-renowned innovations in this field, he stressed the need to adopt efficient irrigation techniques, water recycling systems, and conservation models to better manage Dakshina Kannada’s water resources—particularly in the face of changing climate patterns and growing ecological pressures. He also put forward coffee cultivation as a new area for potential collaboration. With its suitable terrain and climate, Dakshina Kannada has strong potential to develop coffee as a viable export crop. He believes that Israeli technology could help boost quality and output while opening up new channels for international trade and rural entrepreneurship.
Ambassador Azar responded positively, expressing Israel’s readiness to support sustainable and tech-driven development projects in India. He also acknowledged the district’s potential to serve as a testbed for broader national initiatives.
Both sides agreed on the value of creating a scalable model for innovation-led rural development. Capt. Chowta reaffirmed his commitment to providing institutional support at both state and district levels to ensure long-term collaboration.
According to a statement from his office, the meeting marks an important move toward deeper Indo-Israel engagement, focused on empowering local communities, advancing sustainable practices, and building a more resilient agricultural future.
